Syl Valentine was a trumpeter extraordinaire. He formed a 3-piece group, The Patent Leather Kids. This combo is taken to musical heights by their collective music intelligence. This is a one-microphone recording, so all the blending was done on the spot. I think the solos are special because of the supporting arrangements of the Patent Leather Kids. This track has some killer trumpet playing. Fortunately for us, Syl was way ahead of his time.
